Suspect escapes scene after fleeing Gainesville traffic stop

By Bryan Pirkle Reporter

A Gainesville traffic stop ended Tuesday afternoon with one suspect fleeing the scene on foot and another being taken into police custody.

The traffic stop was initiated before 5 p.m. and saw a Georgia State trooper pull over a black Honda Accord on Thompson Bridge Road near Mountain View Drive.

Trooper Nick Jenkins said a white male suspect exited the vehicle after being stopped and fled the scene. A white female passenger reportedly remained in the car and was arrested after the vehicle was searched.

The State Patrol conducted a brief search for the male suspect with the assistance of Gainesville police and a Hall County K-9 unit, but Jenkins said the search proved unsuccessful.

Authorities conducting a search of the scene discovered 86 grams of methamphetamine inside the vehicle, along with "various other drug-related paraphernalia."

Jenkins said authorities have learned the identity of the male suspect, but are withholding the release of that information until a later time.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
