Habersham Christian Learning Center will hold its Annual Meeting/Fundraiser Banquet on Thursday, March 16 in the Stewart Fellowship Hall at Cornelia United Methodist Church located at 275 Wyly Street in Cornelia. The event will include a silent auction, dinner and entertainment. The silent auction will begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the entertainment and speakers will follow dinner, during the meeting. Donations of $10 or more will serve as your ticket to this event.
The theme for the Banquet this year is "Step Out of the Boat." In the Matthew account of Peter walking on water Jesus commanded him first to get out of the boat. We remember well those dedicated individuals, who "stepped out of the boat" in faith in the early 80s, and faced the monumental task of literally going door to door to gain support to make the Center a reality for the young people of Habersham County. Can we do less than step out in faith to make sure it continues to be a "spiritual oasis" for our students for many years to come?
From its inception the Center has provided a released-time, for credit, educational program designed to guide high school students in their emotional, social and spiritual development based on Christian principals in a non-denominational environment. Students are bused from Habersham Central to the Center daily. The curriculum consists of four rotating courses which help students deal with Dating and Relationships, Interacting, Survival Strategies and Life and Work Planning. Each class begins with scripture and prayer. Students are expected to work and do the related activities as they would be expected to do in any of their classes at the high school.Through the years there have been many heart-warming success stories. The Center is currently serving 115 students this semester and has hired a new teacher.
So we encourage you to join us at the Annual Meeting/Fundraiser Banquet on Thursday, March 16 to celebrate what has already happened at the Center and to help plan for the wonderful things to come. If you are interested in attending or have any questions, please call the HCLC office at 706-778-5483.
