On Tuesday, February 21 and Thursday, February 23 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, the Department of Labor will provide free workshops to area veterans looking for assistance regarding employment.
The workshops are a part of the state's quarterly labor events for Georgia veterans looking for assistance regarding benefits, counseling and employment. Workshops are open to all veterans and their spouses/care givers .
Tuesday's workshop will be held at the GDOL's Toccoa Career Center. Manager of the center, Greg Pitts, said the workshop will cover a wide array of topics.
"We are trying to provide them resources on the things they need to do to get ready to enter the workforce. It may be as simple as helping them with a resume, or it may be something far more significant such as a homeless veteran that we can point to resources there and assist them to get proper attire to wear to job interview," said Pitts.
Representatives from several agencies will be on hand at the workshops to help with:
- Job assistance and training
- Social Security benefits
- Veterans’ benefits and helpful tips
- Healthcare information
- Counseling information
- Upcoming community veteran events
- Following both workshops, Lee Arrendale State Prison will be available to discuss employment opportunities with those in attendance.
Veterans should bring valid identification, including military ID cards and driver licenses, along with their resumes.
