Hall County Fire Services Captain Zachary Brackett states firefighters have been on the scene Sunday of a brush fire that came close to residential properties in the 3400 block of Southview Trail in Gainesville.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be from a discarded cigar.
"A juvenile admitted to smoking a cigar and discarding inappropriately which ended up being the origin and cause of the fire," said Brackett.
Responding units found roughly 12 acres surrounding the residential area involved when they responded around 12:20 p.m. to the Southview Trail area which is off of Clarks Bridge Road.

The Georgia Forestry Commission was requested to assist with containment of the fire. Hall County Fire Services had 11 apparatus with a total of 28 personnel on the scene Sunday.
The main body of fire has been extinguished and Georgia Forestry personnel have been plowing a break around the area of the fire.
"The break will keep any remaining fire or smoldering objects confined to the current fire involvement area," said Brackett who added there is no longer any residential threat to this fire.
"We do come out and check it periodically, but once a fire of this size occurs it burns up all the fuel so with the break around it, the fire will stay contained ."
