CLEVELAND — White County will be opening a feeding and shower facility at White County Middle School during select hours this weekend.
The facility, located at 283 Old Blairsville Road in Cleveland, will be open from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Anyone without power and needing these services is welcome. Those utilizing the showers should bring their own essential hygiene products, towels, and change of clothing.
In the power restoration efforts, more power crews have joined local HEMC linemen working on the outages.
Nicole Dover, HEMC spokeswoman, said those additional personnel bring to 250 the workers who are in every county served by the electric cooperative.
Even with the extra help, the work is slow, Dover said, because they have to rebuild the system in areas where lines and poles were knocked down. A check Friday afternoon showed 5,600 customers in White County were still without power.
Dover said HEMC's goal is to have all power restored by Sunday night. Customers are reminded to keep reporting their outage every eight to 10 hours at (706) 865-4362.
White County Government offices, including the detention center on Hulsey Road, have power restored but some of the facilities still do not have Internet service as of Friday afternoon. That Internet service is a key to many of the operations for the county and businesses.
