ATLANTA — Gainesville got its starting quarterback back in the mix but still could not notch its first win since opening night in a 39-14 loss to Marist on Friday in Atlanta.
Tre Luttrell started and scored two touchdowns -- a three-yard run and a 33-yard scoring pass to Trey Blackwell -- returning from injury for the first time since an Aug. 25 loss at Alpharetta.
But the No. 6 team in Class AAAA proved too much, as the War Eagles ran out to a 25-0 first half lead, as Marist took advantage of two Gainesville turnovers to take a commanding first half lead.
The Red Elephants (1-4) will begin region play next week in a key showdown against Habersham Central at City Park.
