An Alpharetta man has been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted child abduction in Forsyth County.
According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened Saturday at the Barnes and Noble bookstore at The Collections Shopping Center on Peachtree Parkway.
"Deputies received a report that an unknown adult male had physically picked up a 3 1/2-year-old boy child inside of the Barnes and Noble store and had attempted to exit the store with the child," according to a press release from the sheriff's office. "The father of the child saw the event unfold and intervened stopping the event. The child was not injured during the attempt."
Several deputies and detectives from the department's Major Crimes Unit canvassed the area and recovered video evidence of the attempted abduction, according to the release.
"FCSO shared this video on our social media sites and (with some media outlets). Multiple investigative leads came into the Sheriff’s Office as a result of the video being shared."
After working well into the night, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office South Precinct found the suspect Sunday morning.
Michael Fazio, 26, was arrested and charged with kidnapping.
The sheriff's department thanked "all our citizens and local media who shared the event. Their assistance was invaluable in allowing FCSO to identify and arrest the suspect."
The department did not discuss a possible motive for the incident.
