With Lawrenceville's longtime police chief retiring, the city has started the search for a new chief of police.
Randy Johnson, who has been chief for 21 years, will retire in March.
City officials will accept applications through Feb. 9, 2018, according to City Manager Chuck Warbington.
"We are looking for the next public safety leader, not just an officer with the listed qualifications,” said Warbington said in a press release. “This position is critical to the stability of the community and must be a person who takes to heart the welfare of his or her employees. Our officers do a remarkable thing, standing between order and chaos, between life and death, every single day. Their leader must be a remarkable individual capable of continuing to guide the department while caring for the community.”
Qualifications include a minimum of 10 years' experience, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and POST certification, among others.
The goal, according to Warbington, is to conduct interviews and have a selection for hire by mid-March, just prior to Johnson's retirement date.
