Senators Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., and David Perdue, R-Ga., announced recently that high school students from Cumming and Locust Grove have been selected as delegates to the 56th annual United States Senate Youth Program.
They are Kendall Chamberlain of Cumming, who attends West Forsyth High School, and Aaron Fondal of Locust Grove, who is a student at Strong Rock Christian School. This year's event will be held March 3-10 in Washington. Each student will also receive a $10,000 college scholarship for undergraduate study.
While in Washington, they will attend meetings and briefings with senators, members of the House, congressional staff, the president, a justice of the Supreme Court, leaders of cabinet agencies, an ambassador to the United States and senior members of the national media. The students will also tour many of the national monuments and several museums.
Chosen as Georgia alternates for this year's program were Jacob Busch of Chamblee, who attends Liberty Chamblee Charter High School, and Meredith Johns of Kennesaw, who attends Kennesaw Mountain High School.
The chief educational officer in each state (in Geoergia, State Schools Supt. Richard Woods) selects the delegates after nomination by teachers and principals.
