JEFFERSON — Jefferson scored 28 second half points to pull away for a 35-7 win over Hart County Friday night in a crucial Region 8-3A showdown.
The Dragons (6-1, 3-0 Region 8-3A) broke a 7-7 tie at halftime getting two touchdown runs from Donsha Gaither and one from Paxton Cockery while the defense shutdown a good Bulldogs (2-4, 1-1) offense.
Jefferson got a first half interception from Sammy Elegreet and a fumble recovery in the second half.
Corkery led Jefferson with 55 yards rushing. Jacob Thompson added a rushing touchdown as well.
Freshman quarterback Carter Stephenson, who is filling in for the injured Colby Clark, was 7 of 13 passing for 94 yards and one touchdown and added 26 yards rushing. Zac Corbin caught a 27-yard touchdown pass.
The win kept the Dragons tied with Monroe Area (7-0, 3-0) atop the region standings. The Hurricanes routed Jackson County 63-0 Friday night.
Jefferson will travel to Morgan County next week.
