GAINESVILLE — Gainesville football needed a boost in the worst way.
On Friday, the Red Elephants defense made sure Big Red got just that.
Yielding just 117 total yards, while also forcing three turnovers -- and scoring a touchdown off one of them -- Gainesville's defense set the stage for the Red Elephants' first victory of the campaign, 20-7 over Winder-Barrow at City Park.
For their collective efforts, which also included a blocked field goal, Gainesville's defense has been named the Conditioned Air Systems Athlete of the Week.
With two region contests remaining, the Red Elephants know they can still notch a playoff berth and take huge steps forward under first-year head coach Heath Webb.
With that in mind, members of the Gainesville defense talked with AccessWDUN Sports and Friday Game Night's Morgan Lee about their big night, busting a potentially demoralizing streak, and what the rest of the season holds for the Red Elephants.
