DAHLONEGA — Fannin County clinched its first playoff berth since 2010 with a 35-14 win over Lumpkin County Friday at The Burial Ground.
The Rebels (4-5, 3-2 Region 7-3A) took a 14-0 lead into halftime but Luke Smith got the Indians within 14-7 with an electrifying 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the third quarter.
Fannin County responded, however, with a pair of touchdowns to push the lead to 28-7 heading itno the fourth quarter.
Smith added a 19-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter but Lumpkin County could get no closer.
Lumpkin County (3-6, 1-4) were eliminated with the loss.
