Workers adding new levels to the parking deck in downtown Gainesville reached a milestone this week when the final precast concrete pieces were installed.
"They started breaking down the crane yesterday (Thursday)," City of Gainesville spokeswoman Nikki Perry said by email Friday, "and it will be completely gone early next week."
Perry added, however, that Main Street and the first three levels of the deck remain closed and are on schedule to reopen Monday, Nov. 26, with the entire project scheduled for completion sometime in January.
According to a Facebook posting by the city, the new levels will now be covered with "large metal mesh and then covered with three inches of concrete."
