A Hall County 6th grader was arrested Friday morning after he allegedly brought a small caliber handgun to East Hall Middle School.
Officials with the Hall County School System said another student told a school administrator the student had brought the loaded weapon onto school grounds.
The Hall County Sheriff's Office issued a press statement that said school officials and the school resource officer detained the 11-year-old and then searched his locker, where they discovered the gun. The sheriff's office said officers found no evidence the boy threatened anyone with the weapon.
Administrators placed the school on lockdown during the incident. The lockdown was lifted at 11:30 a.m.
The student was arrested and was suspended from school pending a disciplinary tribunal.
