Lawsuit filed in Georgia's District 7 congressional election

By AccessWDUN Staff
The governor's race is not the only race in Georgia that's under the microscope - so is the District 7 congressional race, which encompasses parts of Gwinnett and Forsyth counties.

Democrat Carolyn Bourdeaux Sunday evening filed an emergency motion in federal court to stop Gwinnett County from certifying its election and count absentee ballots that were rejected, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The lawsuit is separate from legal action taken by Stacey Abrams' gubernatorial campaign. Bourdeaux's court action apparently is designed to force a recount in the election with Republican incumbent Rob Woodall, while Abrams is trying to force a runoff with Republican Brian Kemp. Kemp has claimed victory in the Nov. 6 election.

The newspaper reports said the Bourdeaux campaign is trying to force a recount in the election. Right now, Woodall leads the vote count by about 900.

The suit claims Gwinnett County has nearly 1,000 absentee ballots that were rejected that should be counted.

The Gwinnett elections board had not responded to the newspaper at last report.

Woodall told the AJC he was trusting the process.
