Pennie Eddy, Program Director and Instructor for the Lanier Technical College Accounting Program, has been named the college’s Instructor of the Year and winner of the Rick Perkins Award.

“Pennie exemplifies the kind of teacher we pride ourselves in at Lanier Technical College,” President Dr. Ray Perren says.  “She not only engages and trains her students in the classroom, but also brings a healthy background of industry knowledge and experience.  We know she will make Lanier Tech proud as she moves forward in this competition.”

Eddy first taught as an adjunct instructor at Lanier Tech and then joined the team full time in 2014.  Eddy remarked, “I know that the faculty and staff of the Technical College System of Georgia match the needs of today’s employers with today’s workforce by providing hands-on training. It’s about today’s needs, and the TCSG is perfectly positioned to respond to those needs; that’s what sets us apart.”

Eddy has thirteen years’ experience as an accounting instructor in the Technical College System of Georgia system and over sixteen years of experience as an accounting manager and Certified Professional Accountant.  Eddy was selected for the inaugural I-Lead Leadership training program at Lanier Technical College and serves as an advisor for Skills USA - a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.

The Rick Perkins Award is given annually by the Technical College System of Georgia to the Outstanding Instructor of the Year. In order to qualify at the state level, each of the system’s 22 colleges selects a winner at the local level who then goes on to compete in one of three regional competitions in March. From each region, three representatives are then sent on to the state competition which will be held in April at the Spring TCSG Leadership Conference.

The other three finalists for the Rick Perkins Award Competition at Lanier Tech were: First Runner-Up Craig Taylor (Program Director/Instructor for Industrial Systems Technology); Roslynn Kuznicki (Nurse Aide Program Director/Allied Health Department Chair/Instructor) and Wendy Schuster, CPA (Accounting Instructor and Division Chair-School of Business, Public Safety and Professional Services).
