CLEVELAND — A White County deputy sheriff continues to recover from injuries he received in an accident early Sunday morning while patrolling during wintry weather.
Capt. Scotty Scarbrough of the White County Sheriff's Office said the accident happened at 12:55 a.m. Sunday. It was snowing and sleeting at the time and visibility was not good.
Sgt. Jared Baker was traveling on Hulsey Road near the White County Convenience Center when a tree that had fallen down caught the passenger-side window of Baker’s patrol vehicle, Scarbrough said.
The deputy turned to look and "like a spear the tree went through the right-side window striking the deputy and damaging the driver’s side door," Scarbrough said. "If he had not turned his head, it would have been worse."
Baker was transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of facial injuries and released later Sunday.
Scarbrough said Baker will be out work for a couple of weeks recovering.
