Pettitt arrested for DUI, says he'll fight the charge

By B.J. Williams

Mark Pettitt, set to be sworn in on Dec. 27 as the newest member of the Hall County School Board, has been arrested on a DUI charge.

A Gainesville Police Department arrest log shows the arrested happened Saturday, Dec. 15, at the intersection of E.E. Butler and Jesse Jewell Parkways.

The 26-year-old Pettitt posted a statement on his Facebook campaign page Monday, apologizing for the incident, but saying he will fight the accusation.

"I regret to share with you that I was charged with driving under the influence this past Saturday. While I plan to defend this accusation, I want to convey my respect for law enforcement and the rule of law.
I realize the people of Hall County deserve the best from their public servants and I look forward to resolving this matter in a way that will restore your trust in me. I thank you for your love, support, friendship and most especially your prayers in the difficult time to come. I hope you all enjoy a very happy Christmas with your loved ones."

Pettitt is set to replace Brian Sloan, who announced his retirement from the school board in January of this year. Pettitt will represent the South Hall area on the board.
