The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office recently received a grant to assist with the Gwinnett Reentry Intervention Program.
Deputy Shannon Volkodov said the GRIP program is a necessity to helping people get back on their feet after incarceration.
"Many of the inmates that participate in the GRIP program have drug addiction, alcohol addiction, mental health issues or they are homeless," Volkodov said. " So we pair them with resources in the community to help them get a better start on life when they are outside of incarceration , so they do not come back."

Volkodov added the grant funds will be put to use right away.
"The grant is being used to implement POCKET, which is a comprehensive case management software platform," she said. "So basically, this software going to allow us to keep doing what we've been doing, but allow us to do it in a more efficient manner."
The program has been in place since 2012. The $50-thousand grant is from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
