After about three weeks of searching, the Barrow County Sheriff's Office has found the woman they believe to be responsible for the hit-and-run death of a man and his dog on Dec. 3.
The sheriff's office announced the arrest of Sandy Wilson, 42, on its Facebook page Monday, Dec. 24, although media reports indicate she was arrested over the weekend.
Wilson was named as a suspect in the fatal accident on Dec. 6.
A report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution said Wilson was found hiding in the closet of a home located near the Barrow-Jackson County line. The newspaper said she was arrested without incident.
Wilson faces a long list of charges in the death of Marvin Barnes, 66, of Statham. Authorities said Barnes was walking his dog just after 8 a.m. on Jefferson Road when he and the dog were both hit by Wilson's vehicle. The SUV was found the same day, but Wilson eluded authorities.
There is no word on a court date for Wilson.
