Just as the water subsided and Hall County authorities were able to re-open Jim Hood Road, they had to close Cagle Mill and Belton Bridge roads because of flooding.
Jim Hood Road in the area of West Fork Little River was shut down for just under three hours when heavy rain pushed the river over its banks and across the roadway.
At the same time, Conner Drive off Claude Parks Road in Murrayville was closed when water covered the road. As of 3 p.m., Conner Drive remained closed.
A new road closure was announced Friday afternoon as Cagle Mill Road was shut down due to flooding of the North Oconee River. Shortly after authorities closed Cagle Mill, they also announced the closure of Belton Bridge Road in the East Hall area.
County officials will continue to monitor the roads closely and will reopen them to traffic once it is safe to do so.
Other counties in the region have also experienced problems with flooding as rains moved across the region.
Casey Ramsey, Interim Emergency Services Director for Hall County, said the rain should taper off Friday afternoon, but another round of storms is expected Saturday evening, and that could mean more flooded roads this weekend.
