*Ben Brisbois of Gainesville, caught five bass weighing 20 pounds, 11 ounces, a week ago to win the 2018 T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League Bulldog Division opener on Lake Lanier. Brisbois earned $6,380 for his victory.  Complete results can be found at FLWFishing.com.

*Family Promise of White and Habersham counties will be holding its 5th Annual Reverse Raffle to fight homelessness on March 15 at Unicoi State Park & Lodge. It's a major fundraiser for the group and for more information contact Martie Brooks at (706) 969-0854 or [email protected].

*UGA Family and Consumer Sciences in Hall County has an education program on the importance of breast and cervical cancer screenings. This Cancer Prevention Cooking School is free and includes instruction from the American Cancer Society, recipe demos and tastings, door prizes and a cookbook for each participant. *The Young Irelanders will appear in concert March 6 at 7:30 at Brenau University's Pearce Auditorium, sponsored by The Arts Council.  

*The Braselton Downtown Development Authority has received a grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts to install a decorative crosswalk. Downtown leaders are planning to place it near the Braselton Library and are looking for sponsors to help with the project. Sponsorship is limited and March 15 is the deadline to sign up. *Monday’s meeting of the South Hall Republican Club will feature Josh McKoon, a candidate for Georgia Secretary of State, and Jim Beck, a candidate for state Insurance Commissioner.  The meeting will be at 6:30 at the Spout Springs Library.

*Buford High School’s Audrey Weiner has received an appointment to the Air Force Academy, according to 9th District Congressman Doug Collins. Weiner is the daughter of Todd and Sunny Weiner, 

*Headwaters Master Gardeners will host a free spring Lunch and Learn March 15 at 11:30 at the Cleveland United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.  The meeting will be about the history of the Soque River, its current status and conservation efforts.
