By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

One person suffered smoke inhalation during a house fire in Gainesville shortly after noon Saturday.

Gainesville Fire Department spokesman Keith Smith said the call came in about 12:20 to the 600 block of Hillcrest Avenue.

"(The first units on the scene found) heavy smoke coming from the rear of the residence," Smith said in an email.  "The fire was held to one room of the residence due to quick suppression efforts."

Smith added that one person was "evaluated" for smoke inhalation but was not taken to the hospital.

He said the cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
