Some damaging thunderstorms are possible across Georgia, including the Gainesville area, this weekend.
"Showers and thunderstorms will develop ahead of an approaching cold front on Saturday and move into Georgia Saturday evening into Sunday," according to the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City. "Some thunderstorms associated with this system may be severe. Damaging wind gusts will be the primary severe threat, though isolated tornadoes will be possible."
The greatest threat Saturday is in an area generally bounded by Dalton, Blairsville, Gainesville, Atlanta, and Americus that also includes parts of south-central Georgia. Sunday, the worst of the weather is expected to have shifted southeastward to include an area from near Athens and the South Carolina line to southwest Georgia.
