Oakwood meeting to showcase state's film industry

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

As Georgia’s booming film industry continues to break records; the Georgia Production Partnership, along with presenting sponsor, the Georgia Film Office, a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, will host the second of three regional meetings to showcase the opportunity the film industry brings to all of Georgia.

This second meeting of 2018 will be for the North Georgia region and will take place at the University of North Georgia’s Gainesville campus May 18 from 1:00-2:30 p.m.

Members of the public including business owners, economic development representatives, students, and others are invited to attend to learn more about how Georgia communities (outside of Atlanta) are attracting film productions to their cities. The Gainesville area has been the location for parts of several movies filmed over the past several years and convention and visitors bureau officials say the area is growing in popularity with Hollywood.

Students are also are invited to gain a better understanding of the opportunities their studies in established North Georgia film educational programs will give them in allowing them to live and work right here in Georgia.

The meeting format will feature a live case-study conversation with the Location Manager for the Netflix series, Ozark, and the Cherokee County Camera Ready Liaison. Georgia business owners and residents can also learn more about how they can utilize the film incentives in their own tax planning.

Panelists Scheduled to Attend are:

*Craig Dominey, Manager of Camera Ready Georgia

*Wes Hagan, a Location Manager

*Molly Mercer, Cherokee County Camera Ready Liaison

*Peter Stathopoulos, Partner with Bennett Thrasher and Head of Entertainment Practice
