Xiufeng “Julia” Zhu, a Chinese Foreign Language Teacher at Gainesville High School, is this year's Georgia Chinese Teacher of the Year.
The award was presented by the Georgia Chinese Language Educators. It honors outstanding educators for their leadership and service to the Chinese language profession in Georgia.
Also, Marissa Woo has been selected as the 2017-2018 Chinese STAR Student for Gainesville High School. Each year, a high school student who is not only an excellent learner of the Chinese language but who also maintains good grades and is active in other extracurricular activities is chosen for this honor.
As a ninth grader, Woo is already taking Chinese IV having the highest grade in her class and is a member of the Chinese Club. Marissa is not a native Chinese speaker. Although her grandparents are from Taiwan, both of her parents were born and raised in the United States and do not speak Chinese.
