State, local officials investigating river death in Helen

HELEN — Officials are remaining tight-lipped about a death investigation in Helen for now. 

“Helen Police Department, in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of investigation, is conducting an investigation of a white male which was discovered in the Chattahoochee River earlier this morning,” Helen Police Chief Brian Stephens told AccessWDUN Friday afternoon. 

GBI Region 8 Special Agent in Charge Kimberly Williams confirmed agents are assisting Helen P.D. with a death investigation, but declined to give additional details at this time. 

Stephens said no further information is being released until the victim’s next of kin can be notified.
