Gainesville: Downtown parking deck closing Monday for two months

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

The city's downtown parking deck will close Monday as planned, according to a spokeswoman for the City of Gainesville.

Nikki Perry says plans still call for the deck to be closed until late November as two new levels - numbers five and six - are added to the structure.  Main Street is already closed to through-traffic between Jesse Jewell Parkway and Spring Street and will remain closed until work on the deck is completed.   However, sidewalk access to businesses on Main Street will remain open throughout the project.

The work also includes adding new restrooms, which began in July.  The deck additions started on August 24 and the entire project is scheduled to be completed by January 2019.  Progress updates can be found here.

Meanwhile, a Main Street Shuttle will provide free transportation from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays starting Monday and until the deck reopens.  Click here for a map showing the shuttle route and stops and other information about the work on the parking deck.

"I encourage the public to continue supporting downtown businesses during the construction," City Manager Bryan Lackey said while noting the availability of the shuttle.
