There was plenty of movement -- and some stasis -- for the six northeast Georgia prep football squads listed in the rankings of the latest Georgia Sports Writers Association High School Football Poll released this week.
Buford and Dawson County each dropped one spot, while Commerce rose one position. Meanwhile, Flowery Branch, Jefferson and Rabun County each held to their previous positions. North Hall also continued to receive votes, while Union County received its first vote.
The Wolves (3-2) slipped to No. 3 in the Class 5A poll after dropping a 48-24 decision at Class 7A No. 5 Archer last week. Buford plays host to Johnson (4-1) this week as both teams open Region 8-5A play.
In Class 3A, the Tigers (5-0, 1-0 Region 7-3A) somehow dropped to 10th despite a 36-3 defeat of Lumpkin County last week. Dawson County travels to face East Hall (1-4, 0-1) this week in Valhalla.
Commerce, meanwhile, climbed to seventh in Class A following a convincing 35-8 defeat of Madison County last week. The Tigers (6-0) have a bye this week before playing host to Lakeview Academy on Oct. 5.
In Class 4A, Flowery Branch maintained its spot at No. 5 following a 28-19 win over Gainesville. The Falcons (4-0) travel to take on White County (1-4, 0-1 Region 7-4A) for their first region contest on Friday.
Jefferson, meanwhile, still sits at No. 8 in Class 3A following a 70-0 defeat of East Jackson last week. The Dragons (4-1, 1-0 Region 8-3A) travel to face Franklin County (1-3).
Rabun County also held firm at No. 5 in Class 2A following last week's 45-16 defeat of Monticello. The Wildcats (4-1, 2-0 Region 8-2A) head to Banks County (3-2, 2-0) for a key Region 8-2A battle on Friday.
