Fireworks spark house fire in Loganville

By B.J. Williams

Preliminary reports show fireworks get the blame for a fire that did some heavy damage to a home in Loganville early Tuesday morning.

Gwinnett County Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said firefighters responded at 2:45 a.m. to a home in the 1600 block of Summit Glen Circle and found flames burning up an outside wall of the house an into the attic.

"The fire appears accidental and started in a trash can against the side of the house that contained spent fireworks," Rutledge said in a press statement. "The blaze caused extensive damage."

Rutledge said five adults were at home at the time of the fire. They were awakened by a smoke alarm and got out of the burning home with no injuries.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced occupants. There were no injuries reported.
