Forsyth County residents targeted by phone scam

By B.J. Williams

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is starting the new year battling another phone scam.

FCSO announced in a Facebook post on Monday that a man identifying himself as Jim Poe has been contacting residents by phone to tell them they have missed a federal court hearing. "Poe" tells residents they can have the amount of their arrest warrants reduced to a $1,500 fine if they'll contact him.

This scam is similar to numerous others that have circulated across North Georgia, and sheriff's office officials tell residents to simply hang up the phone when they get such calls.
