The two people who died in a Wednesday morning murder-suicide in Dawson County were a husband and wife, according to the Dawson County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Jeff Johnson identified the deceased as Stacy Matthews, 53, and her husband Ralph Matthews, 58.

The bodies of the deceased were discovered at a location on Crane Road around 8:45 a.m. on Jan. 2. Deputies went to the location after receiving a 911 call about gunshots fired in the area.

Johnson said the investigation is open and active, so no specific information on the deaths will be released at this time.

"Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the family and friends during this time," Johnson said in an email.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to assist with the investigation.
