Flowery Branch man faces charges after weekend chase with state troopers

By B.J. Williams

A Flowery Branch man faces a list of charges after a weekend vehicle and foot chase with the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

GSP Cpl. Joshua Hedden said the incident began around 3:25 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 on Georgia (SR) 365 near Ramsey Road.

"A trooper with the Georgia State Patrol observed a green Ford Expedition traveling south on SR 365. The trooper's patrol vehicle, which is equipped with tag readers, observed that his tag readers were alerting him to the Ford Expedition which had no valid insurance coverage," Hedden wrote in a press statement.

Hedden said the trooper attempted a traffic stop and the vehicle turned right onto Ramsey Road.

"The driver of the vehicle pulled off the shoulder briefly then continued back onto Ramsey Road," Hedden wrote. "The chase continued on White Sulphur Road, Beverly Road, Limestone Parkway, Park Hill Drive and Enota Drive. The driver of the vehicle during this time drove at high rates of speed in a reckless manner and failed to stop for several red lights."

Hedden said as the vehicle traveled on Enota Drive, the driver attempted to turn into the parking lot of a building at the corner of South Enota and Park Lane. The vehicle hit the curb and then struck a tree, according to Hedden.

"After the vehicle stopped, the driver fled from the scene on foot and was arrested without incident a short time later," Hedden said.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Neil Trampas Richards, 41, of Flowery Branch. Trampas was charged with DUI, reckless driving, speeding, failure to maintain lane, improper passing, felony fleeing and eluding, obstruction, failure to obey traffic control device and other traffic offenses.

Three passengers in Richards' vehicle remained on the scene, according to Hedden.

Krystal Angelica Martin, 31, of Lula was arrested because she had an active warrant from the Braselton Police Department. The other two passengers were not charged.

Hedden said GSP received assistance in the incident from the Hall County Sheriff's Office and the Gainesville Police Department and K9 Unit.
