Gainesville police are investigating a shooting incident on the east side of the city that left one person dead early Saturday evening.
Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said that authorities were called to DeSota Street just off M.L.K. Jr. Boulevard around 5 p.m.
"A male subject had been shot," Holbrook said. "He was pronounced dead on scene."
The shooting is currently being investigated as a homicide, with Holbrook saying around 6 p.m. that officers remained on scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are still working to identify both the adult victim and potential shooter(s) in the case, and Holbrook said they would appreciate any information that might help shed some light on the incident.
"If anyone does have any information related to this case, please call 911 immediately to assist investigators with the case," he continued.
No other information has been made available at this time.
