North Georgia Technical College is getting part of a $29 million grant award from the federal government to colleges, universities and other agencies for use in helping the unemployed find work.
According to a news release from the Labor Department, the money will be used to "expand the impact of workforce development efforts in the Appalachian and Delta regions through the Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities grant initiative."
Groups that will be targeted for help include "dislocated workers (including displaced homemakers); new entrants to the workforce; and incumbent workers. Individuals affected by substance abuse disorder may also receive services through this grant."
North Georgia Tech is getting $1.3 million for programs in Fannin, Franklin, Habersham, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties.
