*Gainesville High School senior Lexie Richemond recently walked away with the crown as the new Miss GHS. The contestants included: Isabella Garrish, Abby Griffin, Lexie Richemond, Sadie Roach, Bella Scarlett, Allison Vandiver, and Lauren Ware. The individual winners were: Allison Vandiver (First Runner-up), Abby Griffin (Second Runner-up), Bella Scarlett (Interview Winner), Lexie Richemond (Talent Winner), Allison Vandiver (Evening Gown Winner), and Lexie Richemond (Miss Congeniality).
*The Forsyth County Fire Department is collecting toys for children in need. New, unwrapped toys for children ages newborn through 18 may be left Nov. 11-Dec. 11 at any Forsyth County fire station or the Fire Department Headquarters (3520 Settingdown Rd.).

*Northside Hospital’s Arthritis & Total Joint Specialists has opened a new practice in Gainesville. Dr. Michael Gottsman began seeing patients Oct. 28. In addition, Northside Cardiovascular Institute welcomes Drs. Cindy Grines and Fredy El Sakr to a new office in Lawrenceville.
*Students and faculty at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School assisted the Tennessee Valley Authority and Mainspring Conservation Trust on October 24 with an experiment in stream bank preservation on school grounds.
*Braselton’s Downtown Development Authority awarded a matching landscaping grant to one of the town's newest businesses, the Braselton Brewing Company. Funded by the Braselton Main Street program and the DDA fundraisers, its purpose is to encourage downtown beautification through landscaping and art.
*Gainesville Police Explorers, a law enforcement career-oriented program for ages 15-20, placed second in "Building Clearing" last week at the Gwinnett County Law Enforcement Competition.
