SATURDAY EDITION: Around Northeast Georgia

*Students from Gainesville Middle and Gainesville High Schools were selected to participate in the 2019 GMEA (Georgia Music Educators Association) District 14 Honor Chorus with over 400 students from middle and high schools throughout Georgia. Chosen based on their musical abilities and leadership in chorus, the participants attended a two-day workshop November 15-16 at Brenau University in which music experts worked with them on song ensembles.

*Registration is underway for the 22nd annual Polar Bear Plunge, a fundraiser for the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club.   It will be held at noon on New Year's Day.  Pre-Registration is found on the LCKC website www.lckc.org, or https://fs17.formsite.com/lckc1/form17/index.html. *Lanier Technical College has named Annette Baker the Rick Perkins “Instructor of the Year” and Emma Blaze, a Dental Hygiene student, is the school’s GOAL (Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership) winner and will represent LTC in the regional competition featuring GOAL winners from all of the state’s technical schools.

*The North Georgia Technical College Foundation recently received a $12,000 grant from the Gene Haas Foundation to support student scholarships and student competition teams.   The scholarships will be awarded students who are currently enrolled in or will be enrolling in Computer Numeric Control technology training or CNC machine-based engineering programs.

*Brenau University interior design students once again this year decorated for Christmas at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta.

*And, did you know Republican Doug Collins of Gainesville, who is the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, which conducted impeachment hearings this week, is not the first 9th District U.S. Representative to participate in a high-profile hearing on Capitol Hill?   Ed Jenkins of Jasper, a Democrat, was on the committee that investigated the Iran-Contra Affair in 1987.
