As the countdown continues until Gainesville’s annual Christmas on Green Street event, city officials have issued a reminder that about road closures planned in connection with the day’s festivities.
Christmas on Green Street is slated for 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.
In preparation for this event, starting at 2:30 p.m. that day, Green Street will be closed to traffic from the Jesse Jewell Parkway/E E Butler Parkway intersection to where it forks off into Thompson Bridge Road and Riverside Drive. From that fork, Thompson Bridge Road will remain closed to traffic until the Thompson Bridge Road/Enota Avenue NE intersection. Riverside Drive will remain closed until the Riverside Drive/South Enota Drive NE intersection.
Organizers emphasized in a news release Friday that "absolutely no vehicular traffic will be allowed on Green Street at this time."
Side streets feeding into Green Street will be open for parking but will be blocked off to prevent traffic from traveling onto Green Street. Motorists may also park on the downtown square and in nearby parking decks.
Road closures will remain in effect until around 8 p.m. and officers with the Gainesville Police Department will be stationed at each detour point to assist the motoring public. Motorists are encouraged to use Limestone Parkway or Dawsonville Highway to Sardis Road to avoid the area.
Christmas on Green Street will be held rain or shine.
