Lakewood Baptist Church is embarking on a $2 million expansion to address the "phenomenal" growth in its children’s and recreation ministries. The work will add space in the Kids Cove for infants and Pre-K children and the ministry center for recreation for all ages.
Executive Pastor Don Ormsbee is leading the team for the projects.
“The additional space will allow us to reach our families and community better with the love of Christ. We envision the impact on the lives of children, youth and adults reaching far beyond the walls of the church,” Ormsbee said.
“Our plan is to raise funds and pledges to secure the projected amount needed, without borrowing, to honor the Lord,” says senior pastor, Tom Smiley. “So far, we’ve secured about fifty percent of the funds and plan to begin construction in April.”
Church members and local businesses are contracted for the work, including Brewster and Crocker architects, designers Rochester & Associates and general contractor Tipton Construction. The entire campus on Thompson Bridge Road is approved as a planned unit development so the expansions will not require additional zoning actions.
