Officer-involved shooting leaves one suspect dead in Buford

One suspect is dead after an apparent domestic dispute led to a police-involved shooting in Gwinnett County late Saturday afternoon.

Authorities say no officers were injured in the Buford-area shooting, and that the identities of the involved parties are not being released at this time.

The incident began when officers with the Gwinnett County Police Department were dispatched to a home on Suwanee Mill Drive, located not far from Buford Highway, in response to a domestic dispute between the suspect and his wife.

"When the officers arrived, the suspect, an adult male, was standing outside with a knife in his hand," explained Gwinnett Police Ofc. T.H. Kim. "As the officers gave verbal commands, the suspect went inside and came back out with a handgun."

Kim said that officers began attempting to negotiate with the suspect, who refused several orders to drop the weapon.

"After several minutes, the suspect pointed his gun at several officers," Kim continued. "One officer [fired a] shot, striking the suspect."

Immediately after the shot was fired, Kim said that officers began rendering aid to the suspect, but that he died on scene as a result of the gunshot wound.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations was notified of the shooting, and is leading the resulting investigation.
