*The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recently recognized Fire Department Division Chief of Fire Administration Brenda M. Green for 25 years of service with the county.
*The WorkSource Georgia Mountains Career Coach will visit the Good Samaritan Food Bank on Friday, February 22, 2019 and on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from 9 AM – 11 AM both mornings. The food bank is located at 1220 McEver Road in Gainesville. Representatives will help attendees search and apply for jobs, write resumes and cover letters, discern their career interests, and learn about funded training opportunities.
*Piedmont College President James F. Mellichamp will present an organ recital concert 4 p.m., Sunday, February 17 in the Piedmont College Chapel on the Demorest campus. Admission is free but audience members will be given an opportunity to show support for Mellichamp’s participation in Dancing with the Stars for Hope, a fundraiser that will support domestic violence victims.

*Forsyth County residents are invited to celebrate Georgia Arbor Day by attending a tree planting ceremony at The Orchard at Chattahoochee Pointe (5790 Chattahoochee Pointe Dr.) as well as planting their own trees. A limited number of free Swamp Chestnut and Dogwood tree seedlings will also be available during the event. It will take place between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15.
*Young Harris College will host a book launch for Assistant Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing Chelsea Rathburn to celebrate her newest collection "Still Life With Mother and Knife." It will be held Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. in the Rollins Campus Center’s Hatcher Dining Room on YHC’s campus. This event is free and open to the public.
*Gwinnett County Animal Welfare is hosting an Adopt-A-Sweetheart special Feb. 11 through Feb. 16 with the discounted price of $2.14 for each dog and cat.
