A Powder Springs man narrowly avoided being shot by a Commerce homeowner during a break-in at the woman's home this week.
Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said the incident happened just after midnight Tuesday, Feb. 12 at a home on Highway 82 Spur.
"The homeowner heard someone trying to get in a window and went to her back door to look out, at which time a black male was standing there," Mangum wrote in a press statement. "The homeowner was armed and advised the suspect not to enter her house."
Not long after the first encounter, the homeowner heard glass break in the upstairs part of the house and went to investigate, according to Mangum. She said the woman fired two shots in the direction of the suspect. He was not hit by the gunfire.
"Deputies arrived on the scene and the suspect was apprehended without incident," Mangum said.
She identified the suspect as Hans Edward Rogers, 20, of Powder Springs. Rogers was charged with home invasion and burglary.
The homeowner and another occupant of the house were not hurt, according to Mangum.
