A 20-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a pick-up truck in Lumpkin County this week.
The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) said Benjamin Jacob Bruner of Athens was traveling on Ben Higgins Road near Carlton Seitz Road around 11:55 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 when the incident occurred.
Investigating troopers said a Dodge Dakota being driven by James Phillip Holbrook, 63, of Dahlonega, was improperly backing out of a private driveway into Ben Higgins Road. The rear of Holbrook's truck was hit by the motorcycle. Witnesses told the GSP it appeared Holbrook had backed into the path of the motorcycle.
Holbrook was not injured, but troopers said Bruner was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center to be treated for injuries.
Holbrook was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), failure to yield when entering or crossing roadway, improper backing and serious injury by vehicle.
