A Social Circle man has been charged after his gun fired accidentally as he was stopped on Mundy Mill Road in Oakwood, according to police.
Sgt. Todd Templeton with the Oakwood Police Department said Franklin Williams, 23, was at a traffic light on Mundy Mill when the weapon discharged. He said a 911 caller reported the gunfire.
"The caller reported a male operating a Toyota Camry discharged a firearm from the vehicle. The caller suspected the firearm was possibly accidently discharged," Templeton wrote in an email statement.
Templeton said officers were able to track the vehicle to the Sam's Club parking lot. They found Williams at the store.
"Further investigation revealed the subject was attempting to unload his firearm when he mistakenly discharged it. The subject was cited for discharging a firearm within the city limits," said Templeton.
No one was injured.
