The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recently became one of the latest local governmental bodies in the state to formally oppose a residential design bill that would preempt local building design standards.
The measure is pending in the Georgia Legislature.
If passed, local governments would no longer be able to create standards such as character areas, which has traditionally been one of the hallmarks of good planning, according to a news release from the board.
“I can’t think of anything worse than taking away the citizen’s right to have a voice,” said Vice-Chairman Cindy Jones Mills. “All the meetings, all of the things the local community has done – to say that those things no longer matter - it’s not right.”
The Board voted unanimously to send the resolution to the state legislature.
