Forsyth County to begin using new tone for monthly weather siren tests

By AccessWDUN Staff

Beginning Wednesday, Forsyth County will replace the severe weather siren “test tone” with a “warning tone” for all monthly siren tests.

Previously, the county’s monthly siren tests, held at noon on the first Wednesday of every month (weather permitting), featured a test tone while the warning tone was reserved for an actual tornado warning.

“The decision to begin conducting the siren tests with the warning tone instead of the test tone was made to help avoid confusion and to help residents recognize what the alarm signifies should there be an (actual) tornado warning in the county,” said EMA Director Chris Grimes.

Forsyth County has 17 outdoor severe weather sirens located throughout the county.
