Flowery Branch City Council has operated with a vacancy since the first of the year, but qualifying gets underway today to fill the post.
City Clerk Melissa McCain said qualifying runs from Monday, April 15 to Wednesday, April 17. Interested candidates may file qualifying papers between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The special election will be held June 18, 2019.
The post was left vacant when Mary Jones resigned in December, citing health concerns.
Jones' term was set to expire in 2019, so the special election will fill the vacancy through the end of the year. Another election will be held in November for the next term.
