Construction activity for the I-85 widening project will require lane closures this week along the corridor in Gwinnett, Barrow and Jackson counties, according to Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Katie Strickland.
The work gets underway Monday, April 22.
"Asphalt paving and bridge work on I-85 will necessitate single-lane closures in both directions between SR 211 in Barrow County and SR 53 in Jackson County," Strickland said in a news released.
She said the work will happen night through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., on Friday from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday, and then Saturday from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday.
"Single-lane closures will also be utilized along I-85 northbound from Hamilton Mill Road to Spout Springs Road in Gwinnett County and southbound from SR 211 to Spout Springs Road," Strickland said. "That work will occur nightly from Monday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Friday from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday, and Saturday from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday."
Strickland said traffic pacing activity also will occur in each direction each night from Monday through Saturday. Pacing activities will extend northbound from Hamilton Mill Road in to SR 53 and southbound from SR 53 to Spout Springs Road. Pacing will begin at 9 p.m. nightly and continue until 5 a.m. each morning.
