Just days after Lake Lanier Olympic Park becomes part of Gainesville Parks and Recreation, the city will celebrate with its annual Beach Bash.
The annexation of the park on Clarks Bridge Road is effective July 1.
"This facility has been a major attraction for the Gainesville area for over 20 years," said Mayor Danny Dunagan in a recent press statement. "We are excited to welcome Lake Lanier Olympic Park into the city."
Gainesville officials have planned improvements to enhance the park facilities, as well as increase events and tourism at the park.
The first event on the calendar is Beach Bash on Saturday, July 13 from 5 to 10 p.m. In the past, Beach Bash has been on the Downtown Gainesville Square. Organizers said moving the event to the park will allow for additional space
Beach Bash will include a free concert of 1980s hits with Electric Avenue, a children’s area complete with inflatable waterslide and beach games. Food trucks and beer/wine vendors will offer a variety of dinner options.
Free parking is available at the park. Boats are welcome to anchor near the amphitheater and enjoy the music.
