A 27-year-old Athens woman has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of a pregnant woman Monday night.
Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Cleveland Spruill announced the arrest of Kerisa Cooper at a Thursday afternoon press conference.
Spruill said Cooper was picked up Wednesday night in Cobb County and faces charges of felony murder and aggravated assault in the death of 24-year-old Auriel Calloway.
Authorities believe Callaway was outside of her apartment complex in Athens when a fight between teenagers got out of hand, adults got involved and gunfire erupted. Callaway was caught in the crossfire, and both she and her unborn child were killed.
Callaway's 3-year-old son was with her, but he was not harmed.
Both the victim and the suspect were residents of the Clarke Garden Apartments.
